Find iPhone issue with family sharing and multiple accounts.

My son is using two apple accounts - one for iTunes purchases and the other for his regular iCloud like email etc. He has existing purchases for the iTunes.

Here is issue:
When adding him to my Family share, I used his account that contained old iTunes purchases. This account is not linked to Find my iPhone (that is his other account). Therefore his phone does not show up in my Find iPhone app because that is not the account which is linked to.

I realize this is probably a rare case but just wonder if anyone else has problem.

What exactly is the problem? You used their iTunes-only account and not the iCloud account associated with their phone.

The problem is that for people who have had apple accounts for a while there are issues trying to get All of this cleaned up. I just moved my shared account with my wife to a family account so we now have have proper IDs with the legacy account taking up a family slot for past purchases.. Now I bring in my son's account which adds another layer of mess. Not seeing him on find my iPhone is not a big deal except it messes a bit with my OCD

Apple really needs to let us merge accounts - like transfer purchases from one to another.

Completely agree on wanting to merge accounts. But it makes sense that the iCloud account of the phone is what needs to be added, not their iTunes account.
