General Find my iPhone app and account restrictions

Upgraded my IP6 to iOS 9.0.2 couple of days back. When I tried to use built-in Find my iPhone, user/pwd fields were disabled. With bit of a research figured out if I disable account changes ie., set General->Restrictions->Accounts to "Don't allow changes", app "Find my iPhone" user/pwd fields gets disabled.

This used to work as long as I knew.

Am I doing it wrong, or iOS .......

9.1 didn't fix it either. I suppose Apple considers it as a new security feature.

What happened to good ole Apple engineers? Did they leave earth on the mothership?

Otherwise what would be the purpose of disabling accounts in restrictions.

That is something that started with iOS9 with me as well. I used to be able to select don't allow account changes under restrictions and still use find my iphone app for other family members devices or let others use the app on my phone, but now find my iPhone app gets locked just like accounts you log into using Settings.

I don't think the account you log into on Find My iPhone app affects the find my iPhone settings under iCloud login in Settings, so I am not sure why they changed it. It just wastes time with extra steps of entering restrictions passcode, selecting allow changes to account, logging into app with other account & doing what you need to do, and then remembering to go back and enter restrictions passcode and change restrictions to not allowing changes with accounts.

So it's either a bug or a change from previous iOS versions as its not how the app acted in prior versions. I submitted a bug report during beta testing. Changing this on purpose makes no sense since logging into app does not affect iCloud find iPhone setting.

I have different iCloud account for each device to maximize the free 5GB. So what is the purpose it serves locking to iCloud account of same device.

When Jobs was running Apple Find my iPhone was used to find the lost iOS device from some other device.

Up until iOS8 one could borrow somebody's iOS device, log in with lost device's iCloud account and play sound/erase/put it in lost mode. For that the person lending the phone has to disable account restrictions before handing it to a friend or stranger

Hmm. I just gave this another try; I enabled account restrictions and can sign out of find my iPhone, something isn't right on your end. I'm on a 6s on 9.1.

Not sure what I did or didn't do at that point, could have been tired. However FMI app login does not seem to be tied to an account restriction.

But can you sign back in with restrictions or selection account area to type in another iCloud account?

I can also log out with restrictions locking accounts if app is already logged in, but I cannot log back in or change change accounts without unlocking account under restrictions.

I tried so many combinations of restrictions I confused myself, my final answer is I agree with you, it's a bug imo.
