So I travel a lot for work and some of my family members have my user name/password so they can log into Find My iPhone and see where I'm at in the world. No big deal. My question is this...

It seems to be completely random, but sometimes I get an email notification from apple that my info has been used to log into my Find My iPhone account from device X, or something to that effect. And then there are other times I know my folks or other family members are using it but I don't get any email. Why is this? It seems that sometimes they are just staying logged in and other times the app is logging them out and they have to log back in. What determines all that? I looked in my Apple ID account and couldn't really find anything on how to manage this as a setting. Thanks folks for any info.

Apple will notify you every single time you (or family) log into find my iPhone. If a family member does more than one search for you while being logged in, you will only be notified one time.

This feature does not have any user settings past turning the service on or off.

Well I hate to disagree with you while offering help, but this doesn't seem to be the case. I took my sons phone last night that doesn't even have the app on the device. Installed the app on his device and logged into my account. No email received. Could there be a reason for this occurrence?

I have had this in the past too. Couldn't find an exact reason but if you visit the site from the same computer over and over you don't get notified so I'm assuming there is a cookie. But if you clear the browser history etc then visit the site you'll get notified.

Side note tho personally I would set up find my friends or if everyone is running ios8 then use messages to share your location with your family. One wrong click in find my iPhone could leave you without a device while your away.
