My mom lost her iphone this morning. When she lost it, it was turned on and almost fully charged. As soon as she noticed it missing, she went to search for it using find my and it showed it as being offline. I'm assuming someone snatched it and turned it off. What I don't understand though, is shouldn't find my show the last known location of it? It's not even showing that. Thank you for any help.

Perhaps Settings > iCloud > Find My > Send Last Location had been turned off...

Even if the phone is turned off, Find My can still track it if other Apple devices are around. You may have to mark it as lost in Find My and then you can find its location.

Not sure what you mean by tracking it if other Apple devices are around. I assume you mean other devices such as a macbook and airpods that would be on the same account, but that would only make sense if someone stole those as well. Only the phone was lost/stolen.

The "Find My" feature on the iPhone uses the device's GPS, Wi-Fi, and cellular data to determine its location. If the device is offline, meaning it is not connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data, it will not be able to be located using "Find My." Also, if the device has been turned off, it will not be able to send its location information to iCloud. In this case, the last known location will not be displayed in "Find My."

It's important to note that the "Find My" feature is not foolproof and it may not always be possible to locate a lost or stolen device, especially if it's turned off or not connected to Wi-Fi or cellular data. However, if you haven't already, it's still a good idea to mark the device as lost in the "Find My" app, so that it can be locked or erased if found by someone else. Additionally, you should also contact your carrier and report the device as lost or stolen, to prevent unauthorized use of your cellular service.
