find my iphone

downloaded this app on my iPhone and Mac pro desktop, great app, but what is the purpose of having the app on my iPhone, is it that its needed on my iphone for it to work on my computer, after all if i have my iPhone in my had to click on the app then why would i need it.

In case you have other devices and might need to find them or lock them from your phone rather than from a computer or something like that.
