I've lost my macbook today, and I don't know if I'm going to be getting it back. I've locked it via find my Mac and sent a message with my phone number and a note to hand it to the police, however I've just read online that resetting the PRAM can disable find my mac, and I reset it a couple of days ago because of an issue I was having with the trackpad. Is this true? My computer hasn't been online at all since I've lost it and it just says that the actions will take place next time it's online, and I'll be notified when its found.

I have a 2014 retina MacBook Pro with 10.10.1 installed

This is true for older macs.

newer macs no longer have that option. 1 need to bring in to an Apple Authorised Service Provider and they will need to contact Apple before they can remove the firmware lock.

With that said, be sure you log a case with apple by calling your local AppleCare hotline to report the loss.

The lock hasn't been set yet, as my Mac hasn't been online since I've lost it. It still says actions are pending on find my mac, and I have it set up to notify me when it's online.

I'm worried that find my mac had been deactivated as I did reset the PRAM a couple of days before it was stolen, however from what I can see a PRAM reset doesn't disable find my mac on newer models.

I've reported the loss to Apple as well as the police :( Just hoping now that it will come online again in the coming days.
