I don’t know if I am using it incorrectly or if it is indeed just not working as it should.

For instance, I am on vacation in Barcelona right now and I couldn’t find my AirPods in the hotel room so I opened the Find My app and it showed them as last seen at the beach yesterday, when I tried to „beep“ them, no luck either.

Turns out, they were literally right next to me in the backpack.

Then I left the hotel with the AirPods in my backpack a little later and I get a notification, that I left my AirPods behind?!? No I didn’t.

Completely garbage.

Ha! Yeah, it’s kind of bad with the AirPods Pro. It does seem much better with the AirPods 3 though.

I don’t think the Pros were designed with FindMy in mind. The hardware design is too old. Better FindMy performances is the only reason I would upgrade to the Pro 2s. I’m happy with my AirPod Pros otherwise.

Yep. Fails every time for me. Worthless trash from Apple.

Apple should just deactive that feature on equipment it fails to work. It REALLY looks bad to see such failures.

My son lost one of his AirPod 2's IN HIS ROOM. Find my didn't help. No beep. No nothing. We gave up and I gave him my AirPod Pros.

Yeah it’s not perfect but the beeping feature has worked great for me on AirPods 2 and 3, saved me multiple times after they’ve rolled under the car or something. I don’t know how you could be using it wrong. 🙁 Unfortunately I’ve honestly lost an embarrassing # of cases, so time for an AirTag I guess

Same here. My son, thinks, he lost his Airpods 2 in his room and Find My is useless. I will have to tear his room apart looking for these stupid things.

Like clockwork, I get a daily notification that I left my APP behind while on the way to work. This occurs at the same exact location during my commute even though they’re with me, in my pocket. Very annoying… But even more annoying, the notification comes miles away from home so even if I actually did leave them behind at home, I would be too deep into my commute to turn around and get them.

Besides that, I thought this was supposed to work in a way that would help you retrieve them if left at an untrusted location. Getting this notification miles away is useless.

The topping on the cake is, I got this left behind notification several times while they were in my ears, connected to my phone and I was actively listening to music 🤣

Dont know if its obvious for everyone, wasnt for me. when ive lost my airpod pro in the flat, ive gone to Find My. and it didnt help and im pressing to make a noise and it didnt help.

but then from there if you click on 'Find Nearby' it works really well, for me anyway. you just walk round the flat and it tells you if you are getting nearer and ive found my airpods whether it was both in the case or one of them under the sofa.

Yeah its rubbish. Often when i get into the car after work i still have my AirPods in my ear (transparency mode for phone calls) and it often pings an alert on my watch to say they have been left behind!

What technology in the AirPods Pro 2 makes them easier to track?
How exactly DOES Find My work on AirPods?
Do the AirPods have GPS, connect to Wi-Fi or use some kind of geofencing technology?
Is it just the AirPods or also the case?

The current Airpods tracking is just that the iPhone remembers the last time and place where they were connected. If you put them in the case, they disconnect and that location is noted. If you move the case, the iPhone has no idea. Playing a sound won’t help if they are in the case as you can’t hear it. It’s barely useful.

The new Airpods are supposed to have a new chip that uses wideband radio to identify the location of the case and AirPods in realtime. The new case is also supposed to have a speaker so when you play a sound through it you can actually hear the sound.
