Hi, I would really need your advice here.
My external HDD was stolen and I would like to find its UUID, which is hopefully stored somewhere on my MacBook Pro (OS X 10.11.1).

I used it with Time Machine for backups. If I go to Preferences -> Time Machine -> Select Disk... I can still see there the name of my HDD and it's size. Is it possible to find some more information about it (e.g. UUID)?

I was also trying to find information about recently connected USB devices in system.log but with no result.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

Yes:

  1. Open Terminal.
  2. Enter the following:

    defaults read /Library/Preferences/com.apple.TimeMachine.plist Destinations

Search for the text "DestinationUUIDs" to find the UUID of your backup volume.

What Richard2 said.

I know if encrypted, and tell Keychain to remember password, the disk does show up in Keychain. Since not at my Mac right now, can't recall if other (read: non-encrypted) show in Keychain.

ADD: Back at the Mac, Keychain only remembers encrypted drives, it seems. Don't see any other drives listed.

Worked. Thank you so much!
