Eh, same thing lol, they all take you to the same place. I don't use file explorer, I've always used my computer or my documents (documents).

My Computer or My Documents are the folders. The application you are using to look at those folders is File Explorer.

macOS also has a documents folder but instead of calling it My Documents it's just "Documents". I guess they're assuming if they're on your computer, then they probably belong to you :)

I just click the Finder icon, then I have the documents and whatever folders on the sidebar so I can quickly get to them. I’m sure there is a way to make a Documents shortcut on the desktop like in Windows but I’ve never done it. I’ve always liked a clean desktop even on my Windows computers.

Technically, you were using it, you just didn't have to navigate to it. It's the default program that runs when you log in to your computer (regardless of anything else that's set to launch automatically). Anytime you're navigating through windows or the desktop to select icons of the file system, you are using finder/explorer.

You might notice that anytime you click on the desktop or any filesystem window on the desktop that Finder becomes the highlighted focus app in the menu bar at the top of the screen.
