I've recently updated to El Capitan and downloaded a ProTools driver I shouldn't have (see ProTools HD Driver 11.3.1 for Mac: http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/download/en379411) and now I can't turn off mac or open finder. I want to backup so I can format (been wanting to do this for a long time) but without finder, I can't access the files I want to back up! I'm stuck, so any solutions as to how to uninstall the driver or how to access my files for back up in some other way are welcome.

So, you will want to try to uninstall the driver, then see if you can reboot normally. Either that, or backup, reformat and re-install the OS.
