Finder freezes with network/win shares

As the title says. I have made no changes on the windows server. When I connect to the server in finder, Finder freezes after a few seconds. MS remote desktop to the server works fine.

Hard to know what the issue is without more information. I use SMB shares all the time without difficulty. What OS versions are you using on the server and Mac?

Are they on a linux/samba server or a win machine?
The server is running windows home server sp1 (windows 2008 r2 server).
The client is running big sur 11.1.
A win 10 client has no issues.
