hi, just recently this started happening. i would be opening a file with finder or dismounting a disk immage and finder will all of sudden not respond. i would get the spinning beachball icon whenever i moved my curser over the desktop. i tried re-launching finder but this has not worked. just wanted to know if you had any ideas of what can be happening

Hi, and welcome to MacRumors. Please provide more information on your system (machine, OS version, etc.), as that will make things easier for those trying to help you.

Edit: sorry, I saw you're a newbie, but this isn't your first post. Welcome anyways :)

i have a 12 inch g4 pb 100gig hd and 512mb ram, however i run it in clamshell with a 20 inch widescreen monitor. ive been hearing about repairing privilages or volumes, but im not too clear on what that actually does or how it can help.

Under Tiger, in the Applications Folder -> Utilities ->Disk Utility, select your hard drive and run 'repair permissions'. If something has become corrupted this is a good place to start.

what does repairing the permissions actualy do. I dont believe anything is corruped because this happens at random, ive noticed though that it has only happened when i have my ipod, which is not in disk mode, connected and then i put my computer to sleep and wake it up later in the day. it happened once when i went to eject a disk immage, once again, after waking my compter from sleep

Mine has frozen occasionally since 10.4.6 - and there was another post on here suggesting someone else had noticed occasional freezes since.

Did it start before 10.4.6?

not that i know of.. i just noticed it 2 days ago.. and its only after waking it up from sleep, but it doesnt happen all the time. when i woke it from sleep this morning and opened and ejected a disk immage it froze on me

Okay, have you got any theme changers installed?

Does this happen in other user accounts? If it doesn't, then find a file named com.apple.finder.plist and drag it to the Trash before restarting. :)
