I am trying to expand the 'Show Preview' column the the left to make it larger when in 'List View' but it stops where I am showing in the attached image to the upper right.

Is there anyway to make this larger(Terminal perhaps)?

That's how far it goes which is not far when viewing on a 5k screen. On a laptop with much lower resolution it's doable.

Basically there is no limitation to dragging that divider in Windows Explorer which is incredibly nice and is prompting me to find a solution for MacOS Finder to mimic that. The only thing I can think of is Apple designed that years before high resolution screens came out and the images were big enough in the preview pane.

Edit - Yes I am aware of Quick look but curious to see if anyone had any Terminal hack or something else to get this bigger within Finder.

You can double the size of the preview column of the Finder if you use ForkLift - $20, but it offers an awful lot of other features beyond a larger Finder preview column if you're willing to spend the $. But even Forklift doesn't allow the amount of customization Windows Explorer does.

You can search for Finder Window Managers to see if there's something else out there that suits you.

Yeah looks like third party Finder replacement is the only option then. I don't even mind the money but these apps can have issues with resources and crashing I just hate having to rely on third party for something that is such a foundation of using the OS such as file management. God if Apple would just put some more effort into their file management(I'm sure I am preaching to the choir here)

Apple has to balance pro features with the lowest common denominator end user. For every one of us there are probably hundreds of users who have no use for a particular feature or don't even know what it is.

That being said, I tried several Finder replacement apps, but I settled on ForkLift. I'm currently using the version 4 beta (it's freely available on their blog). It's in pretty good shape for a beta version, I'm using it all the time on my main Mac. Version 3 (the currently shipping version) is pretty stable, but I would just jump in with the beta at this point.
