I'm trying to figure out how to make Finder work more for me. I do not find the horizontal scrolling aspect of the sorting in Finder useful. It's confusing for me to navigate this way. I would rather be able to scroll vertically. It's frustrating to me that you either have unsorted icon view or sorted horizontal scrolling icons. Where is my happy medium?

Is there a setting, a configuration, or something else that I completely overlooked? Is there a way to modify the browser to have custom views of the files?

"Horizontal scrolling aspect of the sorting" - I have no idea what you're referring to here. Screenshot?

Ed: Okay, I think I get it - you're using icon view (which I hardly ever do). It's not really "horizontal scrolling" - but it is horizontal sorting. Scrolling is still vertical, for me though.

That's gonna be https://apple.com/feedback

Your icons must be arranged wider than your window. To eliminate horizontal scrolling, just rearrange them to fit your window. View > Clean up.

It's not the first time this issue has been brought up.

Yes, it's totally idiotic that the "Show All" option cannot be enabled by default (you need to click each one individually).

However, I just noticed that when you arrange by date (any of the four available date sorting types), "Show All" is actually enabled by default right away.

P.S. If it's truly important to you to view icons arranged by Kind, you may want to try other utilities such as Path Finder or Adobe Bridge (free). I have no idea if they do exactly what you need, but it's worth checking out.

Thank you (and sorry for any confusion resulting from my Mac OS illiteracy). I didn't even see the "Show All" because it's light gray, and when I look at it btw, it doesn't register as a button/link. Thanks for alerting me to this.
