Finder problem

Finder won't pick a size to be, sometimes it will be smaller and sometimes it will be wider or taller, etc. Anything I can do?

What part of Finder keeps changing size? Is it the windows, the icons, the text or something else? A screenshot may help here.

The preference file for the Finder is named com.apple.finder.plist appropriately. Remember to restart straight away if ever you have to remove this file. Without yet fully knowing the problem, I wouldn't recommend removing this file just yet.

Let me re-phrase that. Finder is basically the default size and it's supposed to fit three icons across the way it is, but after exiting and opening a new window back up, the icons in apps and etc will be in two long columns. I can't get them to stay how they should be.

Window view settings are stored in the invisible .DS_Store file found in most directories.
Sometimes you can get OS X to change information in that file, but you have to be lucky; at least, I can't figure it out...

You can use the shareware Cocktail (I think you can do it without buying it, but I'd recommend buying it anyway) to remove all the .DS_Store files in a folder or on an entire disk. That will reset all windows, so you want to resize and reconfigure the view the first time you open the folder again.

I think you can reset the default size (doesn't apply to custom-sized windows) by pressing the Finder icon in the Dock, sizing the new window accordingly, closing the window and then pressing the Finder icon in the Dock again.

Alright well I got it to a point where it will stay and not constantly change back and forth, so I'm just going to leave it =).
