Finder Problems

When I am working with my external hard drive in finder(deleting files, folders, etc.) sometimes I get a folder that will not delete. It says:

"Sorry, the operation cannot be completed because an unexpected error occured. (error code-1407)

What does this mean? Is there anyway to fix it?

I've never had that sort of problem, it sounds like some sort of file system error. Does a disk reapir help? Try diskutility.

will the repair disk in the disk utility erase the drive?
