FINDER question

When I save files, it opens finder. What I can't figure out is how to save files to subdirectories. It will list say Documents, but I dont have an option to save it within a sub directory. How do I do this?


Also, how do I cut a file from one directory, and paste it to another directory (still learning, use to windows). Finder seems limited in doing these tasks, or maybe I just don't know the shortcuts.

1. Click the little down-arrow next to the field where you type in the file name

2. Copy something as normal (right click > copy, or cmd + c), then go to the folder you want to paste it into. Right click, press option, then the "paste item" will change to "move item here"

1. As said, there are two forms of the save dialog: a short one, which just lists recent folders and major locations; and the "detailed" one, which you get to by clicking one the little down arrow.
Once you've set the detailed view, it should stick. Now you can click through folders, etc. You can also drag a folder from a Finder window onto the Save dialog, and the dialog will "go" there. You can also type in a file path by typing a Unix path, like "~/Desktop", or /Users/Me/Desktop.

2. OS X does not do CUT and paste of files in the Finder. The thinking is that because the Pasteboard is so heavily used by different applications, it's very easy to lose a file whilst it only exists there. So you must Copy and Paste instead, then delete the old one.
