For the past few weeks on Big Sur 11.6 my Finder Sidebar favorites are not saving.

Every time i re-start or reboot. both Google Drive and Dropbox folders are moved to the top.

I have tried removing right+click and selecting "Remove from Sidebar" and dragging away the folders and no matter what on re-boot they re-appear.

I've tried ptuting them lower on the sidebar but not removing but every time i re-boot they are back to the top. Its annyoign!

If it was just 1 app I would assume it was the app's fault but both Dropbox and Google Drive are separate apps so that makes me think its in the OS. I had the Sidebar order I've wnated for years so this is a new issue (to me)

Well, this guy sort of had the inverse of your problem (sidebar order wouldn't even stick after closing Finder window, but rebooting fixed it for him), but maybe the solution one person offered here that didn't work for him might work for you:

So i had a few older versions of that .PLST in there it was good for me to purge it anyways. I think it solved another issue i was having with custom Icons not saving but after a restart, the sidebar order went back. Again just Dropbox and Google Drive up there.

Glad it solved some other problems, but sucks that it didn't solve your favorites order issue. I wonder what on earth could be the issue then?

Here's a thought for a workaround . . . you can remove Dropbox and Google Drive from your favorites (since they keep cutting in line, LOL!) and instead right-click them in Finder and add a tag to both of them of the same color. Then under Finder's Preferences menu, click on Tags and select to show that colored tag in the sidebar. So that should give both those apps their own separate menu/header in the sidebar. Though unfortunately only the tag color will show on the sidebar, not the individual folders/files tagged with that color - but at least that's a semi-quick shortcut to those two folders.

I am having the same problem as the OP so decided to try this workaround. When right clicking Google Drive in the finder, I am unable to assign a tag. How did you manage to do this?

Well I don't personally use Google Drive on my Mac, but I do use OneDrive. I simply navigate to the OneDrive folder in Finder (Macintosh HD > Users > [your home folder name]), right-click it, and select which tag color I want. This won't work if you try to right-click it in the sidebar. Then be sure you have that tag color selected to show in the sidebar under Finder > Preferences > Tags.
