Hello!

Yeserday everything worked, today opened my Mac Mini and Finder finds nothing. I use it every day to catalogue and find image files. Did no changes yesterday, no updates as much as I know.

Before, when I used "Search This Mac" by putting image file's name into top right search box, it worked either instantly or waited a bit at worst case, but always worked. Today it refuses to find files I know for sure are right there.

Recent files were also a mess, showing only a few. I tried rebuilding Spotlight indexing as explained here:
https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201716
Don't know if it was due to that, but Recent files seemed to slowly appear again. But when searching for specific image in This Mac, it gives me nothing. Tried Spotlight search I barely use... and also nothing. While image I'm looking is right there, existing.

Having hundreds of folders, Finder is crucial in finding right one quick to save right images there, but with this mess, it messed up all my work rythm.

EDIT:
Forgot to add, but while saving image files from Internet, before I could just type in folder name to top right box and through that immediately get right destination. That is now useless as well as no folders appears despite them existing and having been used daily before.

Can try this from a Terminal window. Will reindex your drives.

Code:
sudo mdutil -E /

Try opening System Preferences,
& removing all hard drives selected to search on (hard drive, external drive...)
then quit Sys Prefs, then open it again & select the HD's you want to search on...
i had to do this when Spotlight & Finder stopped working on me.

also, you can try:
Download these two small (and FREE) utilities and use them to do searching instead:
EasyFind:
http://www.devontechnologies.com/download/products.html
=or=
Find Any File:
http://apps.tempel.org/FindAnyFile/

both are frequently recommended, but I haven't tried either...
