Finder wants to make changes

Hello all, firstly I hope I am in the correct section. My problem seems to be a recurring one and although I have seen a couple of solution through searching online I am just wondering is there something I'm missing - basically when I try to delete/move a file to Trash I get the "Finder wants to make changes" error message - I have already complete a repair disk permissions through disk utility and checked that I as admin and guest has read and write access - I have seen something about Terminal but I have not tried this as I am wary of inserting the wrong code/text and messing up my machine - any help is greatly appreciated - I'm currently running Mountain Lion on iMac. Hi Damidget - can you just clarify - a screenshot of what? as in just the error message? - currently not working on machine with the issues but once I am I will get a screen grab. Thanks for your reply

Can you put in an administrator password?

Also just to add I've never had a password applied to my machine or for me to access it so on some of the solutions when it says insert password or reset password I find myself leaving it at this stage as I never had a password to begin with? don't know if this will help or not also have completed Apples own direction of opening info box and clicking the actions button to "Apply to all enclosed items" with no major changes or resolution to the issue hence I ask here am I missing something? Thanks

Hello,

your problem is you no longer are the owner of the Trash folder.

In Finder : Cmd + Caps key + G (or menu bar / Go / Go to Folder)

Type : ~/.Trash

Now you can see the Trash folder in your account : yourusername/Trash

Cmd + I (or right click, get infos)

Sharing and permissions : add yourself (click "+"), read + write.
( if the Sharing & Permissions pane is not visible, click the disclosure triangle to show it.)

Please note that :
"If you are not the owner of the item a standard user can only make changes to existing permissions. An administrator name and password is required to add or delete users and groups, change owners, or apply permissions to enclosed items."

You SHOULD have an admin password.

Hi Bruno09 many thanks for your response, unfortunately I am not able to try this solution just yet as not near affective imac but I will revert once completed and see if it works - looks like I also need to apply a password to my Admin account so I'l do that too
