I am running Mac OS Sierra - latest version

When I search in Finder I can't add criteria because the symbol next to the Save button under the Search box is a - sign and not a + sign. No matter how I search the - sign never chages

All of Apple's documentation says that it should be a + sign so that I can add search criteria

what am i doing wrong?

thanks

Make sure you aren't under "All my Files" (that probably nullifies any criteria since its all your files).

If that doesn't work click on Macintosh HD, type a search, click save, save it to the sidebar. Then just browse around seeing your favorites (avoiding All my files) and see if its "sticks". Remove the smart search from the sidebar if you want (I don't have any currently and it still works). I had the same problem you did at one time.
