I've been using a Mac for about 9 months now, and one of my biggest issues with it is that I can't figure out how to get Finder to remember my window size preferences. Is it possible to get Finder to do this, or am I out of luck? I'd like to make my Finder window a little bit bigger by default so I can see more files on the screen at once. Having to resize the window manually every time is a bit annoying to say the least.

Have you considered getting a script to do this for you?
It may be a bit cumbersome, but I think it's the only alternative.

If you double click the hard drive on your desktop and arrange the window the way you want it, and before you do anything else, close the window. The next time you double click the hard drive, it will recall the size.

To do the same for the new window command, open new window by pressing apple-n, resize window, close. When you hit command-n again, the window will be the same size.

Thanks a lot! I can't believe I didn't think of that before!

Resizing Windows

Hi,

Can I resize a certain window to full 20" desktop?

I have a 20" iMac and I'd like to use the full screen to view windows. Can it open an application and resize (zoom) it to full 20" width ?

Thanks.

Regards,

Well, generally Mac programs will behave just like the Finder-->they will remember the last window size you closed and open the next window the same size. Therefore to have each program open full screen, manually set your window in each program to full screen and then close them and the next time you open the program, it should be full screen. Note however that not all programs are good little boys and girls in following this rule.

To have your browser window automatically go to full screen, copy and paste this text into your browser's address space:

javascript:self.moveTo(0,0);self.resizeTo(screen.availWidth,screen.availHeight);

Now hit enter, now go to Add To Bookmarks, name it Full Screen or something similar, and move it to the very first spot on your Bookmarks menu. Now everytime you want to browse full screen, just select that bookmark.

Two years on this mac, and I never knew that. Awesome tip! :D

However, after an eon of people asking for it, Apple still has not implemented a way to set how a new folder will display. Meaning there is no way to make every new folder you make automatically display as list and be a certain size. If I am misinformed please do tell me because it's a big pain in my tuchus.
