Finder's "Cut" doesn't work, or what?

Something I really enjoyed when on Mountain Lion with XtraFinder installed is the Cut/Copy & Paste features. On a clean install of Yosemite now and it seems those features are built into Finder now thankfully, however Cut is greyed out from the menu and the shortcut doesn't work. This is dumb. Are there some specific criteria that need to be met in order for Cut to work?

I much prefer the way XtraFinder implemented this, but I'm trying to do things "the Apple way" first.

That must be a remnant of something else you installed. Apple only offers copy and move no cut and paste.

Wha...? Well this is on a clean install, so I'm really baffled now if that's true.

OK, so this has existed since Lion, apparently?

But it still doesn't explain why Cut can't be used.
And seems to imply that Cut would erase the file if you forget to paste it - but this was not true in XtraFinder's implementation.
XtraFinder simply put the file on standby sorta, so that once you pasted it would be moved, and if you forgot to paste it would stay put.

That "Cut" is for cutting text when renaming files, NOT for cutting actual files. To move files you use the Move command (Cmd-Alt-V).

A-ha! Thanks, that clears everything up. ^_^

And they did it right - it Moves across volumes too! (Not just makes a copy like regular dragging does)
