Are there any reliable packages that can check Photos for duplicate and similar photos?
I know there are ones that find duplicates based on time stamps etc, but is there anything that can actually analyse the photo itself and find ones that are similar?

I have no personal experience with any specific programs (yet), but if you search for "find duplicate photos on the mac" on the web, in the App Store, and on YouTube, you will find all kind of things. And I believe if you search here in the digital photography section you will find some specific member recommendations.

I use "Duplicate Annihilator for Photos". The user support is as good as it gets and the author actively works on the product. He publishes an occasional newsletter in the details of what Apple is doing with Photos and how his product can be used for quirky issues. It's been around for quite a while and has a lot of built in experience. There are multiple algorithms for analyzing the photos. And it's relatively inexpensive.
