I know this has been asked a dozen times, but I'm not having any luck with searches - what was the tool / technique to get the actual full WiFi card model etc.

System Info is being it's usual helpful self, saying;

Card Type: AirPort Extreme (0x14E4, 0x111)
Firmware Version: Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0 (7.77.37.33.1a1)

I'm sure this is probably not (or at least wasn't) an OpenCore supported chipset for Continuity/Handoff, but wanted to check.

Thanks.

Yeah, I was really looking for a software way.
I'm not sure it is the easiest way but in terminal issue the command: ioreg -r -n ARPT

Search the output for IOName. IOName will have a value of pciVVVV,DDDD Where VVVV is the vendor ID and DDDD the device ID. For example on my machine I get "IOName" = "pci14e4,43ba".

Search here - Device Hunt for the vendor and model. What I find is - BCM43602 802.11ac Wireless LAN SoC which is what I have installed.

Legend! That was the bit I was missing - I already had the ioreg part from a previous search... So the winner is..

BCM4360 802.11ac Wireless Network Adapter

Now, to figure out if that works with Opencore, or if I'm up for a WiFi upgrade to go past Mojave.

BCM94360 (802.11ac + BT4.0) is fully the supported model and the recommended one to use with a MacPro5,1 past Mojave.

BCM943602 (802.11ac + BT4.2) is also fully supported past Mojave, but it's not recommended since is the model known to make a mess with MacPro main NVRAM VSS store.

Followup - is this the one? "Broadcom BCM94360CD 802.11ac Bluetooth 4.0 wifi card for 2013 21.5"/27" iMac"

4360 is the Wi-Fi module, the complete AirPort Extreme (WiFi + BT) models compatible with MacPro5,1 are BCM94360CD or BCM943602CDP (don't buy this one).

The suffix CD/CDP/CS is for the type of antenna connector. MacPro5,1 antennas are compatible with CD or CDP models. CS are for MacBook Air and some MacBook Pros antennas.

Yes, btw, check your card, you probably already have a BCM94360CD.

OH OK, so ioreg + the online reporting tool is only looking at the WiFi part of the thing, hence just reporting the 4360 part of it?

Much appreciated. I'll check it out when I next power it off. :)

BCM94360/BCM943602 BT controllers are USB2.0 while the Wi-Fi controller is PCIe. You won't find the BT module searching for the PCIe id of the Wi-Fi module. That's why you have to check the card itself, since you can have an Apple card or a third party one with the same controller.
