Finding previously viewed image in mail

Is there a way to recover a viewed image that I would have looked at in the mail app?

i have my gmail account connected to my mail app and viewed an image file of a receipt a couple of weeks ago. later I viewed it again on gmail through a web browser on my work computer and deleted the file thinking I wouldn’t need it anymore. I regularly delete my trash folder so on gmail it’s deleted forever. Now of course I need the receipt but it’s no longer recoverable in gmail.

Does Mac keep a thumbnail or cached view of the file I opened that I could somehow recover?

No, the Mac doesn't keep any recoverable version like that.

You should probably leave your Gmail trash alone as the 30-day retention policy would have saved you.
