Finding the temp?

Greetings my fellow macheads!!

I am typing to you from my brand new Macbook and I really like it so far (I just got it out of the box 2 hours ago). Anyway, many people have made the comment that their Macs are running on the hot side. Where do I see where the battery is as far as temps go? What is the proper operating temp again?
