Mountain Lion has restored fine grain volume and brightness control by holding down shift + option and then adjusting brightness or volume levels.

Thanks Apple!

What do you mean, "restored"?

Am I missing something? Snow Leopard had this feature and upon switching to Lion it no longer worked. Unless that was fixed in one of the later updates of Lion?

restore |riˈstôr|
verb [ with obj. ]
bring back (a previous right, practice, custom, or situation);

This is likely the case, as many who had/have Lion reported that this works. I know what the word means. I wasn't aware the feature was ever gone.

Yes, it was definitely missing in the early release of Lion. I recall many members of MacRumors posting that it no longer worked. I was unaware that it was brought back in a later release of Lion.

You are correct. It was there in Snow Leopard, then gone with the release of Lion, then came back in Lion with the 10.7.4 update.
