is it just me ? or even you guys have noticed this ? Don't you guys feel the finger print impressions on the 2018 iPad Display which got released at the Chicago event last month, that iPad seems to be accumulating less finger prints compared to earlier iPad's ? I mean it does gets fingerprints but it is significantly less ? Have you guys noticed this ? or is it Just me ? Maybe I was one of the early or the only customer to check it out and hence the iPad was comparatively clean and smudge free ?

I noticed this right away with my 2017. Maybe the 2018 is even better in resisting fingerprints.

I had the Pro for a while too, and it’s like night and day. I think it’s the Pro’s anti-reflective coating in combination with the laminated screen.

iPad Air (2013) and 2017 iPad accumulates less fingerprints for me. I assume the same is true for the 2018 iPad.

When I switched from Air to Pro 9.7, I immediately noticed how much more quickly the Pro went hazy with fingerprints. I think the AR coating makes the oleophobic coating less effective. I still have my iPad Air and even after 4.5 years of use (3 years very heavy use, past 1.5 years lighter use), it's still more fingerprint-resistant compared to my iPads with laminated displays and AR coating.

It’s the same issue as prescription spectacle lenses (source: am qualified optician).
People say the anti reflective lenses get “dirtier” as they see more fingerprints. It’s not actually dirtier just the lens is so clear to begin with any little smudge shows up. On a plain lens the reflections mask smudges more.
I have the 2018 and can’t say it seems any different in terms of fingerprints on the screen compared to my air2 or iPP

So you are saying just because the iPad Pro Screens are more sharper,brighter,they tend to show more finger prints than the normal iPad ?

Its not that it’s sharper or brighter as such, just the clarity of the anti reflective glass that causes it to show up. Trying to think of the analogy, but like how a white carpet would show dirt more than a brown one lol
IPP = white carpet

As far as the 2018 goes then apart from having a new oleophobic coating there isn’t anything really in theory that would cause it to retain less fingerprints - more that they’re hidden by the reflections on the screen.

Not saying it’s a bad screen - far from it my 2018 is my favourite iPad now has everything I wanted and at the right price too!

You just hit the nail by saying that, at that Price point which it starts the iPad 2018 is a steal ! If somone does not wants the bells and whistles of the Pro at an Expensive Price, but still would like to make iPad a part of life to integrate its convenience and benefits I think the 2018 iPad would be a boon ! Boon to Humanity ! Love Ya :apple: !

Most would prefer the "bells and whistles" but I agree it is at a higher price.

I personally would prefer the Pro for the Size, Display, Hardware Features Mainly RAM. I mean the rumoured iPad X would be a killer !!

I get the theory that anti-reflective coating may make fingerprints more evident. But I had both iPads, and the Pro had an actual thicker layer requiring more effort and time in cleaning than the 2017. It wan’t just a visual illusion.

I guess I have to stop eating all that fried, greasy chicken too. :)

Same here. It wasn't simply an optical illusion. The difference was quite noticeable with the displays off and only a solid backdrop reflecting on the screen. And yep, definite difference when cleaning.
