Anyone know what causes this problem? It doesn't matter which USB-C socket I charge from, it seems to have the same affect. If I unplug the USB C it works fine.... I've tried different USB C plugs and cables, they worked fine on my last Mac.

Should I send the Mac back for a refund?

Are you using the original power adapter with the properly grounded three prong cable?

No but this one works fine on all the other Macs I have. I’m guessing this MacBook is faulty then?

Im just using a USB C cable because I hate that magnetic crap Apple has started using in the new Macs. However this is only an issue on this new Mac 14 I bought, the Mac 16 and Air I have the charger is working fine. I was hoping it was a software issue with the model or something.... I guess I'll have to refund it while I still can.

Or possibly your building grounding is faulty. Again, try it in a different building. Otherwise, if you replace it, you may find you have the exact same problem with its replacement.
Just because you do not have the problem with other Macs, is not entirely conclusive.

Apple chargers don´t have ground prong or pin or whatever it’s called. I’d contact Apple. It’s NOT a normal behaviour

They actually do. The metal stub that the connector is sliding on is an earth stub and on some cables the connector on the stub does have an earth pin connected to this stub.

So I completely wiped the MacBook, but I still cannot get it to do optimised charging. The fingerprint sensor thing is working for now, but I've had this for a week now and it's still sitting at 100 percent. The others I had would optimise straight away, this thing still just charges to 100 percent despite being plugged in 24/7.

I'm gonna give it another week, if not I'll send it back as faulty.

I have exactly the same 'intermittent' fault. Never clicked it only happened when my M2 Air was on charge - spent ages on the phone to apple, did multiple restores (as requested), created multiple admin accounts (again, as requested) and ran multiple diagnostics all to no avail.

Apple refused to accept a swap within the 14 days, then someone on here mentioned the charger not being grounded.

Two things to try:
1. just remove the charge, does it still happen?
2. Place your palm on the bottom left corner, left of the trackpad. Does it still happen?

It’ll take a couple weeks before it kicks in. Nobody has optimized charging kick in immediately. You need to keep it plugged in at all times.

Why can you not accept the charger diagnosis? It's highly likely the reason.
Use the provided one, or buy a higher quality USB-C charger.

I put the official cable on and it’s still not optimising it and it’s been plugged in for weeks now. I think it’s faulty as no other MacBook behaves like this. I use the same usb c chargers on my others and they’re fine.

The original topic was that the fingerprint sensors didn’t work. Did using the original apple charget address this issue?

Dunno I haven’t tested that as the battery hasn’t been lower than 100 percent. I’m waiting for issue 2 to fix itself but it isn’t. If it doesn’t start doing it by next week I can assume there’s an issue with the controller or whatever. I’ll get a refund on it as I don’t want to use Apples horrible repair service.

No still has the same issue, just tested it and for some reason between 80-100 percent it has this issue.
