Hey everyone!

never thought I would be typing this so soon, but I finnally made the switch to mac! i got a blackbook, C2D, 1GB, 120GB HDD!

This machine is amazing! I'm really in love, and my brother is giving me lots of jealous looks haha!

a feww questions though...

should i re-install the operating system? ive read alot of you do that when you first get it.. or should i not seeing as i have 120gb's...
how would i go about doing that anyways?

does my mac come with windows messenger? anyone know of a good version of messenger to download and where to get it?

will add pics later, thanks for any help in advance!!!!

I would reccomend a reinstall of OSX, there are tonnes of language options and printer drivers that you may not need, and regardless of your HD size, you can save a lot of space.

You could get Windows Live Messenger for Mac, or theres Adium, which I have heard good things about, but I didn't like the way it looked.

As far as reinstalling the OS: yes, some people do it religiously. I've owned many Macs and have never done it, not even once (at least with a new Mac), and have never had problems. If you really need space, though, you can reinstall it and leave out some options. Still, I think you'd be better off weeding out the excess now than reinstalling it. Just my opinion, and I think whichever way you decide will be fine.

Get MSN Messenger here.

Enjoy your Mac!

How much you will save depends on what you plan on using. If you plan on using Garageband, iDVD and iMovie, and are planning on using the trial versions of Office and iWork, the amount you will save will be much less, but you will still save a fair amount of space in printer drivers and languages. Whether the couple of gigs is worth it for you is your own choice.

I saved 10gigs. At a total of 120gigs that is over 8%. That was significant enough for me to spend the whole 45 min (max) it takes to do it. Plus, if you go line by line and select what to install you will know exactly what is on your computer.

That has been reported to cause a lot of problems with pre-installed apps. I would just reinstall the whole OS. Installing Mac OS X takes much less time than installing Windows XP on a PC, especially without the language packs and printer drivers.

you'll have to drag the program that you downloaded into the application folder. Instead of installing it like how you usually do it on your PC.

BTW, i just got my MBP, so i had the same problem to me, before i didn't know either, haha. Hope it helped you out.

cheers!

try clicking on the disk & hold 'apple & 'i'' should tell you why its there & what it is.

Also try apple 'e' to eject, maybe an install dmg....

p.s. I've never had a problem with delocaliser, but I don't want to upset dpaanlka!

Because you have the disk image mounted, or an installation program running, or your running MSN Messenger right off the disk which you're not supposed to do.
