FWIW - Just noticed Firefox 70 is finally out - it is supposed to reduce CPU usage and improve performance - It does seem a bit snappier and works well so far (for me) on Catalina

Does anyone know if Firefox 56.0.2 (64-bit) with a few older plugins, will work just fine on Catalina?

I'm on FF 72 (Nightly) and it's noticeably faster than Safari.

There's a bug in the latest Catalina beta though, which makes clicking on the tab bar tricky.

As for FF 56 ... it works but I've no idea about various plug-ins and extensions.

Tabs are a bit slow for me. If I click on the X, it won't close or open with the + right away.

So I've forced on:

OK, I see. But are there updated versions of those extensions that are compatible with V70.x of Firefox?

Well, For some, There are newer WebExtension-compatible ones (different developer) that build upon older Legacy Extensions (up to firefox 56).
But extensions aren´t really 64-bit/32-bit ; they are simple .xpi scripts I suppose, and run within the larger framework of Firefox 56.0.2 which in this case is 64-bit and should run in Catalina.

That might be all well and good, but you risk not getting any security updates for Firefox.

Yes, I know, always have that “work offline” mode handy just in case.
Well, I suppose I don’t see any reason why I shouldn’t update to Catalina. Thoughts?

First, what is the reason why you want to upgrade? Given that you are running Mojave now (I assume the latest version, V10.14.6), why "upgrade"? Catalina still has a number of bugs, and it might be best to wait until V10.15.1, or better yet, V10.15.2, is released by Apple?

Second, it is critical that you insure that ALL third party software you use is compatible with Catalina. Not much of an issue for browsers, and those can be "upgraded" after Catalina is installed. Have you done that? Some of that software might require updates.

Mainly to have latest Mac OS security patches/fixes. Though running older Firefox versions defeats the purpose of “upgrading” to Catalina in the first place , I suppose, lol

All other apps I use are fine.

I feel the same - am using Firefox 70 on both Catalina and Mojave and it seems much faster and snappier on both OS's - have not had any plugins fail - also Using Firefox sync to iOS devises and that is great too

Mojave is up to date as far as security patches go. I assume you are running V10.14.6 of Mojave. Are you?

Still, though, Catalina still has a number of bugs, and even the eventual 10.15.1 update will not get rid of all of them (and in fact might introduce a few more). I would wait if I were you. Mohave is easily stable and secure enough.

The latest Nightly (v72, 26th Oct) has finally fixed the bug with pinch-to-zoom, and it now works without screwing up extension drop-downs.

Set apz.allow_zooming to true in about:config.

At this moment, what do you think: Upgrade to 10.15.1 ?, wait till 10.15.2 is released?
I assume you are still using Mojave. As long as all your third party applications are compatible with Catalina, it would be wise to just wait until V10.15.2 is released. As it is, OS 10.15.2 is in the third phase of beta testing:

https://www.macrumors.com/2019/11/20/apple-seeds-macos-catalina-10-15-2-beta-3/

Also, why the "rush" to upgrade to V10.15.1, with V10.15.2 being close to coming out? Are you having any issues with Mojave?
