Firefox must not be keeping up with something new or altered from Youtube because it crashes on live stream video constantly. Not the whole app, just the video player. Relaunching Firefox does not help. You can start the video again every time (hit refresh) but it will crash again in a few minutes. This has been going on for about a month. Firefox is current. Only browser add-on is adblock. Only crashes on live stream video. Normal Youtube videos play without issue.
I actually opened Safari for the first time in maybe 10 years out of frustration. Safari plays live stream Youtube just fine. I was almost going to switch except it turns out Safari is incredibly slow and pokey! Lags opening any webpage vs Firefox.
Not a computer resource issue. Plenty of headroom in CPU, ram, drive space and performance, and so forth. Using a stupidly overpowered machine for just internet browsing. Everything else about Firefox is great. Snappy. Puts Safari to shame. Except for not supporting whatever Youtube altered with their live stream video. (I'm assuming that's what happened anyway.)
OSX 10.13.6
Using a genuine Jobs era MacBook Pro (One of the flagship 2011 quad i7 machines. Not the new disposable design flawed crap.)
I can use Safari as my live stream viewer while Firefox is still open and a half dozen other apps running and still have headroom to spare. Not the worst I suppose.
Anyone know what's up with this?
Browser recommendations? (Serious suggestions only - that means don't suggest Chrome please! Not down with the call home every 20 minutes feature from the hidden app they install.)
Safari actually made an initial good impression with improved gesture support. I think that's why I went to Firefox about 10 years ago. They oddly had gesture support before Safari. The pinch zoom is slick in Safari now! But beyond that it's just SO pokey slow from what I'm used to with Firefox in general it would be impossible to downgrade that much.
