Firefox Extensions: Are They Safe?

Hey guys,

Sorry to be creating a thread about this, but this is a really serious topic for me.

This is the Firefox Extension I'm wanting to install, but I'm worried about it containing malicious code that could send information about my device back to the Firefox extension's author online:

I'm wanting to install this Firefox Extension: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/video-downloadhelper/?src=search

I want to use this on my Mac and Windows 10 PC so does anyone know if this Firefox Extension is different if it's installed on a Mac or a Windows PC running Firefox?

To be honest, I've never used a Safari extension before, but I do have a lot of experience with Safari
