Firefox Home is a free application that provides access to your Firefox desktop history, bookmarks and open tabs on your iPhone. Firefox Home enables access to the websites you need on the go by picking up where you left off with your desktop browsing. Firefox Home uses your browser data, securely synced from Firefox on your desktop to the cloud, to let you search and browse it quickly and efficiently. You can view the sites you want directly in Firefox Home, open them in Mobile Safari or share them with friends via e-mail. Your Firefox data is private and only you have access to it.

I was excited when I saw this. Thought firefox was
making a browser for the iPhone.
But after reading it's pretty meh, I know all my favorite websites off
my heart anyway. I don't use favorites on my computer to save my most used websites, I normally just save a one off site; I.e a present I am planning to buy for someone and don't want to lose/forget.

So this app is pretty pointless for me.

I'm still confused though ... if Opera was allowed to make a third-party browser for the iPhone, why doesn't Firefox have a browser for the iPhone? Sounds like anticompetitive business practices by Apple that hinder competition, innovation, and progress.

because opera is not a browser in the sense you think of. its a fancy image viewer, with all the work being done by operas severs.
 
awesome, even better than a firefox browser for me.

I use firefox on Mac, but it won't sync bookmarks with iphone, and xmarks doesn't have app

now problem solved
 
Use xmarks to sync firefox bookmarks with safari, then use itunes to sync your safari books to your phone.......
 
Haha, I don't think this could possibly keep up with the number of tabs I regularly keep open in Firefox!

Why don't “Firefox” (Mozilla) have a browser for Android in that case, after all Android is open and Google aren't evil like the evil Apple so surely it should be fine?

The reason is Gecko (the rendering engine used by Firefox) is too heavyweight and not ready for mobile devices.

That wouldn't work for me. I don't use bookmarks much and I don't sync my phone all that often.

If I read the OP correctly, Firefox Home will also mirror your phone and desktop tabs via the cloud. (as well as syncing bookmarks)

i.e. open a tab on the desktop, then open the FH app, and your new tab will be there in the list, ready to be opened in mobile Safari.

Finish reading the page, delete the tab from FH, and it will also be gone from your desktop FF window. That's pretty nifty.
 
While I'm disappointed it's not Firefox itself, I'm pleased that I'll have proper access to my FF bookmarks. Right now, I have to use a messed up export html and hope that Safari doesn't screw up when it imports my bookmarks.

you might want to do a quick google search for "firefox android" before hitting the reply button. if you had, you would realize that firefox is coming android but is still in alpha.

It's very difficult to make a good quality mobile browser, one of the big reasons behind the iPhone's success is Safari, the best mobile browser, hard to beat it.

I am fully aware of that, no Google searches needed. And when it is ready and out of alpha we will see how it performs.
 
I will probably try it out just for the sake of trying it, but it would be more useful if integrated into say AtomicBrowser or Safari. I use FoxMarks to sync my Firefox bookmarks to IE then from IE it syncs to my iPod and iPad... its not a useful thing for me.

I still have my fingers crossed for AtomicBrowser to integrate with FoxMarks... unfortunately its difficult using the i device with ones fingers crossed.

I completely agree about all the bookmarks I have in Firefox and the need for a way to finally manage my bookmarks for Safari.

When this app is approved and in the App Store, please post on the front page again MacRumors!
