I'm wondering what recommendations are out there for firewall software for my Macs, primarily my main laptop running High Sierra (no desire to upgrade any time soon, at least until I get get Mojave and future versions under my thumb on a test machine properly.)

Requirements: I do end up connecting to a fair few risky (potentially) networks or public wifi, VPNs, Tor, what not. Home internet runs servers on an on/off basis, and other users are not too tech savvy, so I'm looking to keep my equipment protected as much as possible while being as usable as possible (big ask, I know.)

I frequently use Transmission (torrents), nmap and all variety of utilities that require access to all kinds of ports both in and out, and I am fine in these situations with lowering firewall settings temporarily (situations being ones which are generally in safe or controlled/isolated environments.) Outside of that, I like things as locked down as possible.

Currently I've got Little Snitch blocking outgoing connections, and I'm using Murus as a GUI frontend to the pf firewall OS X ships with (which is great.) I've used IceFloor in the past, but it seems a little... buggy... and I'm thinking that it might just be worth it going full command line configuration for pf. I've got somewhat decent experience with UFW on Linux, but it would be nice to know of any incoming GUI frontends for pf that I can use with High Sierra - and if they work as far back as Yosemite, that's excellent, and if anything works in Mojave or later (and is actually a decent, proper firewall) - do tell! I'm actually going to check out now if pf is even in Catalina...

Thanks all!
