Just bought my very first MAC - the new 24" iMac. What anti-virus and firewall are recomended for MACs? Do it come with any?

the built-in firewall should be fine; but, you have to turn it on. it's in System Preferences > Sharing > Click Firewall then click "Start." this Apple support article addresses the firewall quite succinctly.

no antivirus software is needed.

and it's Mac, not MAC. you bought your first Mac. congratulations and welcome.

You don't need anti-virus for the Mac, but if you're going to run Windows on it you'll need an anti-virus program for Windows. It doesn't come with the Mac.

There is a really good built-in firewall though, you just have to make sure it's on.

Go to System Preferences>Sharing, then click the "Firewall" tab in the middle and make sure it's on. Then you can quit system preferences and you're all set.

If you're behind a router with hardware firewall, I doubt you need the OS X software firewall. There's a reason why it is turned off by default.

Welcome to the Mac world, no viruses so far! Enjoy!

Intego

OS X is very secure right out of the box. However, if you are paranoid or need extra security, you can use the various Intego products.
