it depens i f you are reffering to a/b as the plug types or using them to desribe firewire 400 and 800. in either case youre imac as fire wire 400.

Duff-Man says...you have 1394A.....the difference (amongst other things) is speed - 1394a is up to 400mb/s where 1394B is up to 800...the connectors are different as well. 1394B has so far only been on the "pro" stuff - Powermac G5's and some newer Powerbooks....oh yeah!

I'm buying a DVD burner and an external case and the guy in the shop asked me if I have Firewire A or B, he said its $30 more if it's B.
