Can anyone suggest a good brand for a firewire 400 to 800 cable?
I have a video camera with a firewire 400 port that I want to connect to my firewire 800 port on my iMac.
I'm guessing it would be futile to connect it via the cameras firewire 400 port to the iMacs thunderbolt port even if that was at all possible? Or is it?

Thanks guys....

Try Monoprice. Great cables at an inexpensive price. I have bought a lot of HDMI cables from them and adapters:

Here is a link to 400/800 cable:

Thanks for the info, however even though I know very little about such things about this I have found out that the firewire 400 port on my video camera is a 4 pin not 6 pin.
To ask one more stupid question. Is the firewire 800 port on the new 2011 iMac a 9 pin?
And would this cable on Apples website be the right one for me? http://store.apple.com/au/product/TU942LL/A?fnode=MTY1NDA3Ng&mco=MjAwMzE1MDU&s=topSellers

Thanks guys....

Sorry, Monoprice has every cable to match up to what you have. Here is all the Firewire cables they have. I don't have my new iMac yet, so I can't answer your question.

Here is the link. Scroll down on the Monoprice link, there is a 9 pin to 4 pin option.

Apple charges usually 4 times the amount of what Monoprice charges and they are the same item. I was a disbeliever on Monoprice until 2 years ago, and they are good.

Here is the exact link for a 9pin to 4 pin 6 ft firewire cable:

Thanks very much! Very helpful

with monoprice you can even call in your situation if necessary, they are very helpful and will make sure you are getting what you need. My only complaint is that they don't offer free shipping regardless of your order total. Definitely not a turn off since the shipping rates are very low and their prices are incredible
