Firewire computer connection

I'm trying to get files from an old computer and put on my new PMac. I have a Firewire cable, but I can't remember what I have to hold down on the old computer to get the hard drive to appear on the new computer. Anybody know what I gotta do here?

Most importantly, I want my MacMail stuff to transfer over. How do I do that?
