I have a problem with connecting all of my Firewire drives at the same time. The problem started when I purchased 2 Plumax cases for a couple drives. What happens is that when both of the new drives in the new Plumax cases are plugged in to the machine at the same time (same Firewire port or different) they both dismount and are said to be unrecognizable. I have no idea why this would be happening since I have another 2 of the Plumax drive cases and they have worked fine in all situations.

Any help with this situation would be appreciated.

Thanx!

How many total Firewire devices do you have connected to your computer? Do the drives work normally when connected one at a time? Are these enclosures bus-powered or do they have AC adapters? You may be overloading the Firewire bus, and unlike USB, this is the sort of thing that happens when you do this.

Each of the new drives will work when connected with any combination of the other 3 drives I have, but not when connected at the same time as the other new one. All of the drives are A/C powered and if all connected I would have 5, but this hasn't been an issue before I got these two new cases.

Huh. There must be something in the design of the new cases that monopolizes the bus, or perhaps a manufacturing defect in the Firewire controller of that particular run? Something seems to be demanding all the resources and not releasing them when finished, and I bet most people would only have one case connected and never notice.

If possible, I would suggest returning them and trying a different brand to see if those have the same problem. If they do, I'm not sure what the next step would be.
