A few months ago, before my beloved Powerbook crashed, I backed everything on it up with an external drive. However, the external drive has a Firewire cord, which my MBA obviously doesn't have.

I'm not too computer savvy, so I figured I'd ask you: How can I connect to the drive without a firewire? Are there any adapters or anything that would work?

Thanks!

you could plug the drive into another computer that does have FireWire and access if over a network, or you could remove the hard drive itself from the case and transplant it into a casethat does have USB

Does the external have a usb connector as well? Most do, as there aren't many firewire-only external drives out there. There's no firewire-to-usb adaptor that I know of.

I'd double check the Hard Drive to see if it has USB as well. It's possible that it's firewire only, but I can't think of a case that is like that offhand. I have MANY externals and most have both USB and firewire. Only one is USB only. From my experience, if there is only one set it's usb.

Many drives used to be made FW-only... I have one from Lacie like that, no USB whatsoever.

I'd suggest transferring the contents onto a mac or through a mac and onto a USB-compatible drive.

If there isn't much data, you could just connect it to the mac and allow it to transfer over the network over night.
