I am using Windows XP on the Mac Pro but get very poor firewire 400 performance with an external hard drive. I installed a generic firewire card and the drive works great under XP and OSX giving me good performance with the generic card. Anyone else with the same problem with the Apple firewire? What does device manager say the firewire chipset is? Anyone get the Firewire 800 to work on XP? I have upgraded to the new firmware(fixed the sata issue) and bootcamp 1.1.1 but still poor performance.

I read in another forum that it's was a driver issue :/
May be you could search for specific XP drivers for firewire in Intel chips ?
