The USB @#$& hookup is soooooo slow- I recently saw a FireWire cable made for the Shuffle-

Will this mean I will be able to do the downloads at the Firewire rate or is this something based on the Shuffle and not the connection??
Thanks

ya i would have liked a firewire iPod Shuffle to go with the USB ones( but that would make the iPod shuffle liine messy). Oo well its not like i put 1000+ songs on it. Just thing USB is what many people use all the time. ARGG thank god for firewire :D

Well that is great but do you know if the Belkin FireWire cord will allow the Shuffle to download FASTER then the USB crap-

if the bottleneck is teh shuffle itself you wont notice any change. it has to go through the shuffle's usb connection after all. the only way it would make a difference is if you have usb 1.1 instead of 2.0. then you'll notice a hell of a boost

I've used my iPod Mini with USB 2 and Firewire. USB 2 feels a bit 'laggy' but isn't that much slower. As a guess you'd get maybe 7 tracks onto an iPod with USB 2 where as using firewire you'd get 10 in the same time.

I looked all over Belkin's site, and I didn't see any kind of Firewire connection for the Shuffle. Can you link this please?

No way

Yeah, he must have been mistaken...as far as I know, FW and USB are NOT compatible technologies...no such thing as a usb-fw adapter.

The technologies are too different. I don't think it's possible to have an adapter (other a fairly large box with a processor, RAM, OS, etc).

Well it was a Griffin product and I can't find the link and I just looked for it on their site- It is a forthcoming product, I guess-

As for my download speeds being comprable- No way- My mini on Firewire can dwnld 50 songs to maybe 8-10 on my shuffle- Maybe it has to do with Flash vs. HD- who knows
I will look for the link more-
thanks

I'm pretty sure that's the reason. In comparison to previous experiences with iPod Mini using USB/Firewire I think it's a safe bet to say the transfer rate to the Shuffle is limited by the Flash memory speed/on board bandwidth. I'd bet £20 on it.

To be honest, this firewire adapter sounds a bit non-sense. Could it just have been a charger? It would be easier to convert power from the firewire port to use on the shuffles USB connection.
