FireWire synching. Possible?

Just wondering if you can synch iPad with a FireWire cable (with a 30 pin of course)

Would it be faster? I'm a noob sorry

Just tried on my Pc with the firewire cable and got Charging is not supported with this accessory and no sync.

Yeah, you can't do this. I called Apple a week or so ago and asked. The rep went so far as to say it was not recommended to even try it, and thought I doubt there's any damage potential, that's Apple's word on it.
