Fireworks a Universal Binary?

Adobe (who owns Macromedia now) will be releasing CS3 sometime mid 2007 which, according to rumours, will have different configurations for different needs (aka a web suite, photography suite, graphic design suite and so on).
Adobe have already stated they will not be releasing any universal patches for any of their applications, instead we will have to cough up the money for an entire suite once again if we want something compatible with our Macs.

So does this mean that we have to buy the suite of products rather than just one product in order to get a universal binary?
Like, I would have to buy a Dreamworks, Flash, and Fireworks suite in order to get the universal binary rather than just buying Fireworks itself?

No, you'll be able to buy Fireworks separately, but it will probably be a much better deal to buy the entire CS3 suite. Adobe has said CS3 and its applications will be universal and will probably be out in the spring of 07.
I would bet the farm that fireworks will be axed, freehand has already made the trip to the chopping block.

But Illustrator is arguably better than Freehand. ImageReady doesn't come close to Fireworks. And while photoshop gets the job done, fireworks is really great because it's a bitmap application that works like a vector-based app and it was designed to be a web graphics application where as photoshop was originally designed for photo editing/manipulation.
Fireworks is a bitchin' app though. What they need to be doing is setting the Adobe programmers lose on it to clean up all the sloppy macromedia code. While I do love it, it can be a dog, and has a ton of quirks. If they axe Fireworks, I'll be running it through rosetta for years to come.
