Uhh...
So, I am trying to update the firmware on my new 15in MBP and I am having some issues.

I found the update here on the apple support/download section. I click to download on the right side of the page and download the .dmg flie. When I attemp to install the file I get a message saying the my computer does not need this update.

My current ROM & SMC:
Boot ROM Version: MBP22.00A5.B01
SMC Version: 1.12f5

According to the Apple support page, here, this is the lastest version:
Boot ROM Version: MBP11.0055.B08
SMC Version: 1.2f10

I noticed that that page was from June of 06,.. do I have the newest firmware update or not?

Well there you go, you solved your own question by searching.
Simply do as they say in that thread, which is do nothing, you have the latest firmware.
And as they also say in that thread you linked to, if in doubt, download the latest firmware update for your machine, and if it aborts installation and tell you that it is not needed, well, then you don't need to update.

My advice: only update firmware through software update...

Several people in that thread seemed to all have different ideas, and after all, these are all just opinions. The apple website said that firmware updates may not appear in the software update program. I thought that maybe it was a known issue or mistake, thats why I was asking. The first time I tried to download the file, the apple website said that the file did not exist.

Don't you have better things to do?

If it didn't show up in software update why explicitly seek it out and then try to force the update to run?

You should change your tag to iTROLL.
