MP 1,1-5,1 Firmware upgrade?

In the last couple of months, I have been buying and selling old Mac Pro parts, eventually replacing my single MP 4,1 -> 5,1 CPU tray with a double CPU tray. I bricked my original tray, by getting a bit too heavy-handed tightening down the new CPU. I now find myself with a spare single MP 4,1 CPU tray. Are there any pitfalls associated with upgrading the firmware of this single CPU tray from 4,1 to 5,1, with intent to sell ? Contemplating temporarily swapping my current tray with single 4,1, doing the firmware upgrade and removing the single tray and replacing it with my current double DPU tray/

only backplane can upgrade
CPU-tray cannot upgrade and must match SMC version as the backplane

so 4,1<>4.1 (SMC 1.39f5) and 5,1<>5,1 (SMC 1.39f11)

if you have an upgraded 4,1 > 5, 1 the CPU-tray must a 4,1 tray
otherwise your fans going crazy - but will also work

OK, let's try another scenario.

I am running a MP4,1 ->5,1 with dual 3.3 GHz Xeon CPUs. I have a spare MP4,1 single core CPU tray that I am looking to sell. Trouble is that I don't recall any of the CPU info. Can I temporarily replace my dual core CPU tray with the single CPU tray in order to be some data on th eCPU and then exchange back to dual CPU tray, without causing harm to my current system's operation?
