Hi,

something is strange... the last upgrade I did for my phone was 3.0. I never upgraded my phone to 3.1 or 3.1.2, yet in Settings -> About, it says my firmware is 3.1 (7C144). I still don't have picture messaging or video that the updates give. Get this though, my co-worker, sitting RIGHT next to me has a iPhone 3GS and DID update his phone but his firmware is the EXACT same version as mine 3.1 (7C144). He has video and picture messaging.. what the??

I can't imagine how the phone would update itself... Perhaps you did it on accident?

What version of iPhone are you using?

Maybe you better ask him if he updated yours when you weren't looking ?

So I guess it's true that Apple are forcing users to update to 3.1 !!! :D

In order for a firmware update to be installed, 3 things have to happen

1) Click update button (although when an update has been available for a time, iTunes will prompt you with an info box when you plug in the phone)

2) You must click download and install

3) Sit there for 4 to 5 minutes while iTunes downloads the update (The idea here is if you don't want to update you can unplug the phone)

The choice to update is yours and it's always operator error when it happens "accidentally"
