UPDATE: YOU CAN READ ABOUT MY EXPERIANCES IN 12 HOURS HERE: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/843886/

UPDATE: FIND OUT HOW YOUR BATTERY COMPARES TO OTHERS HERE: https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/844645/

Hi All,
Some of you may have read my experiances in the first 12 hours of owning my Rev A MacBook Air.
You should probably read that first.

Now, following on from that I have settled in a bit more and starting to DO things.

I really like the clean look of OS X. The overly complex animation of glowing buttons etc on Windows 7 makes the whole experience feel a lot faster.

So far, I haven't noticed any problems with the speed of the machine, I understand comparing it to the rest of the MB line its slow but so far I can run GarageBand and surf the net along with YouTube just fine.

I have found, however, that read/write speeds are a little slower. I have 7200RPM Disks on my desktop and I had an SSD on my little ol' netbook. So this is a bit slow. An upgrade for that will definitely be on the cards.
32GB or 64GB SSD will be fine for me, as most of my DATA is on a 2TB NAS :D so only program storage is needed!

Battery has come to my attention and I am interested to see what other people are getting...
On my very rough timing I think I managed about 4 hours of mixed browsing, installing programs and GarageBand. Which seems pretty good!
In another thread I will post my CoconutBattery Stats and we can all compare!

All in all, the problems I had in the first 12 hours seem to have worked themselves out and I am starting to enjoy what a Mac can do.
iLife really is something special!

Thanks, Joe. :apple:

Glad you like it. Best machine ever (performance excluded of course ;) )
You can go for Runcore SSD, on the same category, you'll find posts and benchmarks, it will for sure go faster than the plater HDD.

Glad doing a fresh install of everything took care of your issues. I'd always recommend that when getting a machine that was not new in box as you never know what may have been corrupted.

Hopefully you'll become one of the many very happy MAC users out here.

Since you have the HD version of the AIR you might consider getting XSLIMMER and running it on all your apps. It'll save a some disk space, conserve some ram, and have many apps loading significantly faster.

You are right I am not sure I did, but in the first one it started to become another debate about the controversy of the MBA.

And no, I haven't got CoolBook yet. I have been using my MBA all day and the heat problem hasn't come up again. So far, so good.

If only my battery lasted a little longer! :/

Perhaps you could link to this (positive) thread by editing the first post of your the other (initially negative) thread, just so people can see the happy ending..

Gotta love Hollywood!

PS Welcome to the World of Mac

PPS I think we argue so fiercely about our beloved products cos we love them so

PPPS Imagine a world without Apple ....

So are you a convert yet? I have converted many people in the past couple years to MAC since I myself converted from a devoted windows user (97-2005) so I now what that was like.

Hi
I would definately say that I am a huge fan of the ultrafast, simple, smooth and reliable performance of OS X.
However, the MacBook Air (although still pretty awesome) doesn't quite hit the spot as much.
I am about to sell it after owning it for less than two months and have decided to get a Rev C.
I am craving a better graphics card that won't burn my lap when watching YT as well as a newer machine in general.

In June my set up should be as follows:
iMac 27 i7 (Pending exam success xD)
MBA Rev C
iPhone 3GS 32GB (Unless newer version is released before then)
HP MediaSmart EX490

As well as upgrades of my camera to a Sony T900 and selling all PC equipment making me an exclusive Mac user!
I can't wait!

Wow... so you converted to Mac in only three weeks time? Have you accumulated all those Apple goodies just since then? I would recommend the MacBook Pro over the MacBook Air if you are wanting more speed, but if weight and size is important I totally understand your wanting an updated Air. I bought my wife an "AIR" and she loves it. I myself use the latest revision of the MBP and love it. My first Mac was an used iBook I bought on Ebay in 2005, liked it and used it for two years, then in 2007 bought a brand new MacBook which I promptly sold for the latest MacBook Pro last summer. Since then I have owned an iPod Touch...now an iPhone 3gs, and bought a 24" iMac for my office. Their stuff just works...and I love it. I no longer own any PC's. I also converted my wife when I met her several years ago. We are spoiled now.

I sure tried to push you in the direction of a 2,1 MBA when you mentioned this originally in the other thread. I have tried to inform people here not to buy any version 1,1 MBA. The discount simply isn't great enough from the cost for a version 2,1 MBA (rev B & C as it's called here) - about $250 in the US between refurbished v 1,1 and refurbished v 2,1 with SSD. Apple already gave us all a discount last June in taking the high end price model down to the low end price. We're all getting the discount, so there's no reason to even go low end v 2,1 MBA. And right now is the absolute worst time to buy a rev C MBA. It's approaching eight months of age, and the price hasn't been discounted one cent from Apple.

I would sell/DUMP it fast, as the MBA update could be less than five days away. After you sell it, wait to see what Apple does with the MBA next week. We could get a range of component changes. At a minimum, most expect 4 GB RAM which is worth the wait alone. A RAM bump will remove the most complained about deficiency of the MBA. Many people have stated all over these forums that they would have bought an MBA instead of a 13" MBP if the MBA had just had 4 GB RAM - surely Apple knows this too.

Good luck whatever you do.

I won't be able to sell it in that time frame. I need to know if I am going to get my compensation from Royal Mail before I make a move. And then I think I will get an MBA Rev 6. (Pref. with SSD!)

I want a new MBA too. I hope we can move our Runcore SSDs over to the next MBA, one one hand. On the other hand, I sure would like a SATA-II connector to install any "standard" 1.8" drive into it. I still might go with a Runcore solution, but it would ensure transferability to other notebooks in the future.

I am going to buy the tablet too, if it has WiFi and 3G via CDMA and GSM built in. I want it to be able to work anywhere worldwide. Some areas focus on GSM (AT&T) and others CDMA (Verizon), so dual network compatibility is a must... same goes with my next iPhone.

I actually am considering going tablet and basic phone. For me, considering most places I would use it, the tablet could overtake 90% of my iPhone uses. I would use the tablet as my primary communications device and simple phone when I need telephone services. However, if the tablet has a front-facing camera built-in, it might work for conference calls, or speaker phone, or video chatting all in one via a VOIP solution.

I really am looking forward to the tablet almost as much as the iPhone.

I'm just hoping that the Verizon gets the iPhone soon like some rumors have indicated. I need a phone that is first a foremost, a phone (imagine that!). I would love to have all of those other features, but if the phone service is lacking, it's a deal breaker. AT&T has poor service in my area, but Verizon is excellent (I was alltel, then got switched).

I have actually looked into a motorola Droid!... I know it's blasphemous, but I need good service from a smartphone... is that too much to ask?

The iPhone is a horrible joke in the SF Bay area where I used to live. I would constantly have dropped. Since moving to MD, the reception quality and consistency is much much better.

Hey in case you didn't know this isn't the iPhone forums. Can we try to stay on topic and not turn this thread into an iPhone discussion?

In all actuality this thread has outlived any usefulness and I hope that I can some day come back to this site and not see this thread anymore.

I know, I'm sorry I got carried away in the 'waiting for the tablet/iPhone update' chatter. We're just getting a bit antsy for the big media event.

Back on topic: Well done OP!, I know it took me some time to figure things out on a Mac... it actually took a couple months before I knew for sure that I could switch for good. The day that I deleted my Bootcamp partition was the day I said goodbye to windows.
